Marriage proposal idea
The Bean Jar
Move one bean into a jar every day for a month and never say why.
- Cost
- $0-25
- Effort
- medium
- Best for
- the partner who notices every small change in the house
The idea
Put two glasses on the kitchen counter, one full of dried beans and one empty. Every morning for thirty days you move exactly one bean across, in front of them when you can. They will ask what it is for. You tell them you will say when it is full, and then you say nothing else about it.
They watch it fill for a month. By the second week they are counting it themselves and guessing, and by the fourth they are checking it before coffee. The waiting is real because they did it with you, one glance at a time, so this is not something they find, it is something they sat through.
The rule is that you never break it, not once, not when they poke at it on day nineteen. Keep a few beans in your bag for travel days, because one skipped morning turns it from a promise into a bit. On day thirty you move the last one while they are standing right there.
What to say
βThirty days, one every morning, and you asked me about it maybe forty times. It was a countdown, and today it's full. I've been standing at this counter at seven every day working up to saying this out loud. Will you marry me?β
Say it slower than feels natural. The pause after it is the whole moment, so let it sit there.

- 3When they ask, give them the same answer every time: you'll tell them when it's full.

- 5On day thirty, move the last bean while they are watching.
- 6Hand them the full glass and tell them what you were counting.
Plan the rest of it
Full Blueprint
Want the whole thing planned down to the minute?
The idea above is the shape of the day. The Blueprint is the rest of it, built around your person and the place you picked.
- A run of show with real times, from the morning until the toast
- The speech, written in your words, with the part to memorize marked
- A shot list for whoever is filming, so they know where to stand
- A supplies checklist with what to buy and when to buy it
- A rain plan, because outdoor asks lose to weather more than anything else
Building the plan is free. The Blueprint is $14.99, added to the plan once you have one you like.
