Marriage proposal idea
The Last Song
Record yourself and drop it in as the last song on their morning playlist.
- Cost
- $0-25
- Effort
- easy
- Best for
- the partner who runs the same music every weekend morning
The idea
Record thirty seconds on your phone. Say the whole thing plainly, with no music under it. Add the recording to the end of the playlist that goes on every Saturday morning, then let the morning happen exactly like every other one. About an hour in, the last song ends and your voice comes out of the speaker.
The good part is that you are already in the room and you do not have to start the conversation. They hear you say it once at normal volume, in the same voice they hear all day. They will probably go still. Wait through that, then say it again to their face.
The speaker is what kills this. A voice memo is a file sitting on your phone, and a file on your phone gets silently skipped when the music is running off a smart speaker or anything you cast, so pair your phone straight to the speaker over Bluetooth and play from the phone. Turn shuffle off the night before and listen to the last two tracks in order. Do not put a song after yours, because the silence is the point.
What to say
βThat was me at six this morning. I recorded it eleven times and they all sounded stupid, so I kept the one where I just sound like this. I don't want another Saturday that isn't this one. Will you marry me?β
Say it slower than feels natural. The pause after it is the whole moment, so let it sit there.

Step by step
- 1Record thirty seconds with the room quiet. Do it five times and keep the least polished one.
- 2Save the recording into the music app on your own phone and drop it at the very end of the playlist, then turn shuffle off.
- 3Pair your phone straight to the speaker over Bluetooth and play from the phone. Local files get skipped on Connect and on anything you cast.
- 4The weekend before, run the whole chain once. Same phone, same app, same speaker, and listen to the last two tracks all the way through.
- 5If you cannot get into their playlist, build the same one yourself the night before and put it on for them in the morning.
- 6Let the morning go the way it always goes, and stay in the room.
- 7Say it again out loud once the speaker goes quiet.
Plan the rest of it
Full Blueprint
Want the whole thing planned down to the minute?
The idea above is the shape of the day. The Blueprint is the rest of it, built around your person and the place you picked.
- A run of show with real times, from the morning until the toast
- The speech, written in your words, with the part to memorize marked
- A shot list for whoever is filming, so they know where to stand
- A supplies checklist with what to buy and when to buy it
- A rain plan, because outdoor asks lose to weather more than anything else
Building the plan is free. The Blueprint is $14.99, added to the plan once you have one you like.
